Thursday, December 3, 2015 - A perfect wine. I have said it many times before, but maybe it needs to be repeated. If a wine does not have any flaw, I will give it a perfect score. The 2005 Atlantis Grenache is one of those wine, at least tonight. At first sniff there is a pure, deep, dark and completely dense Grenache fruit. Though the wine still appears 'young', after a while secondary layers of complexity emerge with fresh herbs, lime zest, cardamom, cinnamon, sweet licorice and lovely new saddle leather. The palate adds to the overall experience with the typical, yet utterly classy, balance and profound integration. Like all SQNs this effort certainly does not lack texture and structure, but there is not a hard edge tonight. Tannins are balanced and integrated. The wine after all has 10 years of rest in the cellar behind it. With a length on the finish just going on and on, I cannot help but praising this effort. It is a lovely wine. I just wish I had it in my own cellar.

Tasted in a flight with 2005 Torbreck Les Amis Grenache, 2005 Clos Saint Jean la Combe des Fous, 2005 Sine Qua Non Atlantis Grenache, 2005 Clos Saint Jean Deus Ex Machina and 2006 Bodegas Alto Moncayo Aquilon.
