Friday, February 9, 2024 - Well, this is a big, primary brute. Black and dark red fruits on the nose and palate. Tobacco leaf. Vanilla. Fairly well structured. Checks all the boxes. Stylistically, it comes off as a cultish Napa wannabe, which isn’t necessarily bad if you like that sort of thing. Tannic, yes, but they’re smooth and sweet, grippy not bludgeoning. Moderate acid. Bittersweet chocolate and Chambord towards the finish.

I PnP’d, and tasted just a couple of minutes after swirling my pour. Drank the bottle over about five hours. Not sure it needs a long decant. Sure, the tannins calmed down a little after some air, but I really didn’t pick up any significant change from first taste to last. I don’t see this getting much better with time, to me it lacks that extra amplitude that suggests it will evolve into something lovelier than what it is today. The structure will allow it to hold for a decade plus, but what you see is what you get. Drink now to 2039.
