Saturday, December 9, 2023 - Drank with the 2019 Vall Llach Porrera for comparison. Decanted both bottles for 4 hours.
Wines are excellent and singing. The Porrera has more Garnacha and hence more smokiness, body and earthiness. Deep black berry fruit, slate minerality and some tobacco leaf spiciness. The sweet red cherries from the carignan add balance and freshness
For contrast the IDUS is 74% carignan, has a lighter color and is pure seduction. Alluring sweet red cherries dominate nose and palate. Sufficient structure from the garnacha. Vanilla bean, sweet tobacco, deep black fruits.
Again, both are excellent and the Porrera will likely gain more complexity over time while the IDUS may dull. Drink now on both bottles.
