Thursday, March 28, 2024 - The '20 Coutet is an attractive, fresh and lighter example of Sauternes. This was tasted next to the '19 and '20 D'Yquem, and was able to hold its own. It was much closer to the '20 D'Yquem than the '19, but of the three was the lightest in terms of concentration and perception of sweetness.

On the nose, I found apricot, ginger, sweet spices, and floral honey. On the palate, the wine is medium to light in body with tangy apricot fruit, honey, white floral tones and spices, with good acidity, very fresh and vibrant. It does not come across as super sweet, so I can see this being a good Sauternes to pair with food. Compared to the D'Yquem wines, this does come across as a bit short in body and concentration. In a way, this seems like it needs age more than the D'Yquem, showing a bit less expressive and more coiled.
