Tuesday, February 15, 2022 - I first learnt of this wine when reading Victoria James’ ‘Wine Girl’ - she highly rated and loved this wine for very agreeable sentimental and vinous reasons.

Notes from the Domaine refer to a blend of 65% Grenache noir (for fresh red berries and red plum), 30% Mourvèdre (for some ruddy structural, funky depth) and the remaining 5% a splash of Carignan (for some bright acidity, spice and herb) all adds up to a ruby red, purple edged, very appealing looking wine.

The nose offers up an enticing collection of aromas: red cherry, raspberry, herbaceousnous, brambles, black olives, vanilla, chocolate and ladies leather glove.

On the palate it's medium bodied with a rewarding mouthfeel, integrated tannins and balanced acidity. The finish is all good with a lovely lip smacking quality and a subtle though highly enjoyable slightly smokey eucalyptus tang.

Good to drink now perhaps with a nice juicy steak, chips and simple salad but will also live up to quite a few more years in the cellar no problem to add further complexity.

Footnote - Steak has been served, wine has opened. Two hours in a decanter will pay great dividends with this juvenile crowd pleasing wine. Now enjoying dusty, unctuous violets in the finish.. just wow.
