Friday, July 29, 2022 - My first Grillo!
@PoggioAnima is a joint venture between one of Tuscany's rising stars, Riccardo Campinoti of Le Ragnaie in Montalcino and his United States importer Ronnie Sanders of Vine Street Imports.
The goal of this joint venture is to tap into existing relationships with grape growers throughout Italy to produce wines that come from one variety, a single vineyard and represent it's indigenous place of origin.
The 2020 Poggio Anima Uriel Grillo is from a vineyard in Western Sicily. This wine was deep straw yellow in color, bone dry, medium+ acidity and a medium- body. Aroma and flavors were fresh tropical fruits and citrus with touches of minerality and salinity.
A delicious wine that you can definitely drink ice cold on a hot summer day.
Fun fact: the Grillo grape is a major component of Sicily’s fortified wine Marsala.
The wine looks straw colored. It smells like lemon, lime and mango. It tastes like lemon, lime, mango and stoniness. The body is medium. The wine has bright texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has medium acidity.
