Friday, May 6, 2022 - An incredible vintage even at this stage, I remember tasting the 2016 at this age and it was outstanding. I believe this might be slightly better in the long term and could easily get to 99+ points, the quality of these wines have really improved and I struggle to see the same quality in another winery apart from Spottswoode. The nose was wonderfully perfumed along with crushed blackcurrants, red currents, violets, tobacco leaf, crushed black pepper, dark chocolate and all spice. The palate was round, rich yet refined with dark lush black fruit filling the palate, along with savoury herbs, all-spice structured tannins, a seductive mid-palate, there is real energy and persistence throughout, the finish is what really put this wine to the next level which was incredibly long and lingering. This is flickering on perfection. 98++
