Wednesday, February 23, 2011 - This wine never quite came up to its potential. It is clearly in the drink now stage. The tannins are very soft and quite supple. The fruit is there but muted, although jammy, in the end. Some toasty oak on the finish as well. Very well mannered but lacking in excitement and intensity. I would describe it as something in the nature of a very well aged Italian barolo - perhaps a bit past its prime. I popped and poured this, so it was not affected by any decanting. I will try again and see if other bottles have the same characteristics.
