Well, unfortunately, while the first aromas of bramble and oak were nice, this didn’t really go anywhere from there. I was left wondering if I could notice a serious difference between this bottle and a $20 Cali cab in an A/B tasting. Dark berry and vanilla was the extent of both the palate and the nose, though I suppose it’s possibly a tad more finessed than a cheaper bottle, but not more complex, and there was zero evolution in the glass.
It was a decent pairing with steak on night one, and Creole lamb stew on night two, but it would be very unlikely that I would revisit a Clos Pegase bottle.
