Monday, June 5, 2023 - Clean, elegant, and definitely French. If I factored price into ratings, this would probably be a 91-92.
This is the least pyrizine-laced pure Cab Franc I've probably ever had. The qualities most evident are juicy plums, blackberries, and a meatiness that comes up mid-palate on. Soft and pillowy on the tongue yet well balanced with enough structure to make it viable at the table with a variety of savory dishes. The only niggle is it does come across a bit formulaic -a bit too clean, perhaps from how it was processed. I may be overthinking it though.
This would be a great picnic wine.
Day 2
Didn't hold up very well. It's become thin and unbalanced. The smoothness has been replaced with a distracting acidy, the berries have diminished, and the pyrizines -well hidden yesterday- are dominant now, lingering long on the finish. Three points removed.
This is a very good wine so long as it's drunk within a few hours of uncorking, I think.
