Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - I was expecting disappointment with this wine, but it surprised me. The nose is quite rustic, with sweeter red fruits reminiscent of a lighter bodied Zinfandel and a nice spicy note. (I'm using the Ravenscroft 'Invisible' glass that is supposed to be for Chardonnay and Chianti, and I figured this was close to Chianti) Strong acidity on the palate, some nice anise and red fruit with a touch of brett - reminds me just a bit of Bordeaux on the flavor profile, but with the acidity of a Chianti. Finish is rather short, but not unpleasant. Paired well with Papparadelle with Pecorino, snap peas, Jalepenos, and spicy sausage - the extra fat from the cheese and the sausage really was matched well with the wine.
