Tuesday, January 31, 2017 - Dinner at Hai Yen (Chicago, IL): We were talking about this wine a few weeks ago, and lo and behold, a bottle appears! This is a surprising Rioja, seemingly different from the traditional style to which I am accustomed, but at the same time this doesn't stand out as a modernist wine either. It's pretty good, whatever it is -- nice dark fruit and a relatively clean aroma that doesn't have quite the animale stench. Silky tannins round out a very solid wine.
