Sunday, January 13, 2019 - Took a bottle to La Vara to celebrate my birthday. I'm almost always amazed how Burgundian this wine is and how much flavor is packed into this without being heavy. Classic notes of cherry, wild strawberry, plum, sous bois, tomato-meaty, funk. This is really perfumed and sexy with some serious sauvage. I found the palate to be a bit more acidic than the nose - maybe a touch dried out. But the wine wasn't a great match with most of the food so that could be it as well. Still beautiful fruit flavors, funk, some meat. This is classic Rioja and they don't make 'em like they used to.
