Tuesday, January 30, 2024 - Fine QPR for an entry-level Reserva but the preponderance of oak at this stage takes some getting used to. 100% new French oak rather than American. Almost a faint whiff of some volatile acidity.
On the nose — Dried cranberry intermingled with sweet vanilla, cinnamon, menthol and sawdust from the oak treatment. Just a touch of savory soy sauce notes on the second day.
The palate shows firm, grainy tannin and a healthy dose of moderate acidity underneath.
Of the grocery store Riojas I’ve tried at a similar price point, I think this one may slightly win out.
