I love the 2004 vintage – fresh, grapes just mature enough to soften the tannins, but not so much to make the wine overly powerful in the fruit department. The resulting complexity is a testament to that peculiar mix of elegance and power that I associate with Saint-Emilion – succulent dark fruit, a hint of bitter chocolate, rosemary, graphite and finishes with a touch of spice.
