Sunday, March 17, 2024 - Outstanding, and one of the most interesting wines I've ever had. I knew this would need air, but I wasn't sure exactly what that meant. Some wines are silent until they're open and others are like a marching band stuffed in an elevator and still others are like trying to translate a story from Coptic into a recognizable language. This one went through all three phases in the first three hours. And on day two, it was ANGRY. As in: there is no reason to open this yet. I have never had a more not-ready chardonnay. You could probably drink this with 8+ hours of air, but maybe not.
The level of complexity is insane. Has a very clean profile, with citrus and spices and a kind of yeasty finish. I would measure the length in minutes. Clearly better than any 1er cru I've had. On day two especially, when it wasn't giving up as much, you could tell exactly how serious this was - and how it might not open up till day 3 or 4. Its complexity is on a par with the couple Batards I've been lucky enough to try. I have another one that I won't even remember that I own until 2030. Might gain a point by then.
