Wednesday, September 5, 2001 - Bright disc. Deep red-brown with orange rim. Clean nose, with moderately-intense (after 10 minutes of aeration in decanter) leather, earth, cigar box and ripe plum. After 30 minutes of aeration, vanilla appears. The wine is medium-bodied on the palate, and the tannins have largely melted away. The flavors are complex and similar to those on the nose. The finish is long and smooth. This wine is very pleasant now and should remain pleasant for a few more years, but I would have preferred to have had it at a more youthful point.
