Friday, May 19, 2017 - As this wine came directly from the Mähler-Besse cellar, this was of course a perfect specimen. Having tasted this wine a number of times, I would have never guessed this as a 1970 Palmer in a blind tasting. It just seemed so vibrant and youthful. There was lots of fresh blackberry, black currant, cigar box, truffle, fresh flowers, and dark chocolate on the nose. Silky textured with smooth, round tannins. Quite intense on the palate, with serious structure. The mouth-watering acidity was in near-perfect balance on the finish. From this bottle, it appears that perfectly stored bottles of this wine could drink well for at least another decade or two.
