Sunday, July 23, 2023 - Fresh and young with the possibility of years to develop in the bottle, this godello shows great structure and is tightly bound at this stage, yet is ready to drink now if fresh and vibrant is what you like.

There’s a probounced creaminess and yeast ones to the nose with Meyer lemon zest, green apple, and green peach which very interestingly opens up to fully ripe yellow peach as it develops in the glass. White and yellow flowers are pretty and add to the substantial interest.

Typical of a young ‘un, the primary fruit follows from the nose to the palate where it is juicy and fresh with a minerality akin to the smell and taste of a clear creek bed filled with rounded stones, and a briny character to boot which paired this beautifully with pink shrimp in a salad with fingerling potatoes, haricots verts, and cracked olives dressed with lemon, olive oil, and a clutch of tarragon. The ripest yellow peach on the finish makes this a total winner.

I have a few more of these and while it’s not expensive and drinking beautifully now it is tempting to keep on drinking, this has the structure to develop for 5-10 years and I’ll be waiting with bells on to see what the future holds.
