Sunday, January 7, 2024 - Did not decant. The nose is fairly muted. It’s subtle and elegant on the palate with lemon and mineral. The finish was short, which leads me to say this wine should be consumed. It was good overall, but I have a few more to drink in the near term.

1/8/2024 8:24:00 AM - @Troon it is not uncommon to see library releases of Daniel-Etienne Defaix 1ers from time to time and, as Seth already mentioned, they enjoy a lot of air. Tracking the development over several days is a very fun exercise

1/8/2024 8:42:00 AM - My understanding is that the Domaine actually does extended cellar aging itself and that its goal is to release wines when it feels they are mature and ready. It looks like some retailers in the UK are selling the 2011 Lys as the “new release”.
The 2010 Vaillon was my first Daniel Defaix and I have some 2010 Lys as well. The Vaillon held its own against the 10 Dauvissat Vaillons and Preuses. Impressive.

1/8/2024 8:55:00 AM - Seth: That is true, they also hold at the domaine much longer than many other producers; releasing when "ready". Their extended aging on lees and zero use of oak almost necessitates it.
