Saturday, August 12, 2023 - North Macedonian red wine from Povardarje: Kratosija (ZPC) 65 % and Vranac 35 %. Aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels. 15 % alcohol.

Tasted day one and consumed day two.

Dark ruby red color.

Round and fresh aromas of nutmeg, dark fruit, sour cherries, vanilla and blueberries. Powerful and fresh flavors of blackberries, blueberries, nutmeg, licorice, cedar and tobacco.

Dry. Medium body. Medium+ acidity. Grippy tannins. Good balance. Good structure. Low complexity. Elegant. Pure.

Medium finish with nutmeg.

Day one: An enjoyable red wine, fruit driven, fresh, pure and elegant. Feels very unredeemed and I would guess that it will improve substantially with age.

Im very impressed by how successfully ZPC and Vranac blend together - for me the result of the blend is a much more interesting wine than any of the varieties would accomplish alone. The result of the blend is surprisingly different, but equally successful, compared to “Grabovac Jeka Riserva 2016” which is a blend between Plavac Mali and Vranac. 89/100

Day two: The wine has opened up quite a bit since the day before. Performs very good with food (sirloin steak) and is enjoyable on its own. My guess continues to be that the wine will improve substantially with age. 90/100
