Saturday, January 17, 2015 - Hunter Valley - 6 Cellar Doors (Hunter Valley): {cork, 12%, A$80} The little “Show Cellar Release” sticker under the main label indicates that these bottles have been through the ‘Light Box’ analysis and massed muster. This largely guarantees freedom from oxidation, although not TCA taint. Doubtless the attrition rate is factored into the price of the good bottles! This is full and rich, and displays all the classic toast and honey hallmarks; medium-bodied weight, long, dry, chalky finish. Hefty for the style; the quite high alcohol suggests a very ripe year; it’s to the wine’s credit that the acid is holding up. All hail the screwcap for saving so many future vintages for the fate that no doubt met so many of these bottles.
