Wednesday, September 6, 2023 - Tasted at the "Red Barn" tasting room with Jim Maresh. Like most of Jim's Chard's this was aged in barrel for a year, then in steel tank for 6 months. 10o% of the barrels were new in this case (since he only made one barrel of it!). It underwent full malolactic conversion. 13% ABV. Made from Estate fruit that was planted to Wente clone in 1983. Bright golden yellow color. M-High acidity. There is some distinct smokiness to this wine, more than the other chards tasted today with Jim. It is also quite complex showing wet stones, metallic notes, pear, lemon and lime. Very broad on the palate and very long on the steely finish. Balanced overall and probably best with some food and certainly capable of aging well.
