Saturday, January 30, 2016 - First impressions were the red fruits that jumped out of the decanter, along with leather and tobacco (be careful of very fine sediment). After almost one hour the wine integrated very nicely, showing red fruits, cedar, a touch of spice, and a bit more than enough balancing acidity. Given that there was no Unico in 2001, Valbuena received the best of the VS tempranillo and may have been blended with more than the usual amount of merlot, which shaved some complexity. Drink now to 2020.
