Monday, September 14, 2009 - Washington Wine Commision tasting (Rooftop Terrace, Millenium Park, Chicago IL): nose: dark, meaty, and brooding nose filled with black fruits, dark red fruits, black cherries, and a good dose of pepper tones. Excellent depth, and is a bit tight right now, but has a real good richness to it on the nose

taste: full bodied with thick tannins. Big, but well balanced with a real good depth and rich tones of dark red fruits, pepper, bits of spice, and black cherries. Expressive, and not as heavy on the palate as the nose, but also a bit unforgiving at this time

overall: can certainly use a few more years to fully round out. A quality syrah that has a richness and dark nature to it that makes it extremely enjoyable. Well balanced, this has a heavyweight quality to it, but doesn't knock you down either
