Saturday, February 24, 2007 - Surprisingly youthfull purple color. Nose of dark fruits, leather, and licorice. There was a brief moment where this wine seemed a little floral, but it faded very fast. Flavors of currants, earth, and some faded spices. Medium bodied wine, with a very smooth mouthfeel and a long finish. This wine is probably on the decline since it did not have anywhere near the spice, pop or acidity of later vintages of Doyenne that we have tasted, but I wouldn't call it over the hill by any means.
