90 Points

Sunday, November 21, 2010 - This is curious stuff. This is one of the nicest cru Barbarescos I have had in a long time. Concentrated to the point of not really being recognizable as Burgundy. Blackberry liqueur, tar, dark chocolate and coffee saturate this wine and there are some fairly large scale tannins in there as well. It is wickedly enjoyable in a completely hedonistic sort of way. It went great with the kobe bavette. Perhaps in 10 or 15 years this can pull itself together and be a representative wine of Volnay but maybe not. If you’re willing to roll with this it has lip-smacking sort of qualities that make for a tasty wine.
