Saturday, July 6, 2013 - Luckily, both financially and hedonistically, Bdx 2000 was a vintage which I bought in spades. Back then I thought prices were outrageous, but now I can't believe how attractive they were especially for the premiers. I have tasted 30+ Crus of this vintage many times over the past years. In general, several of the top Pauillac/St.Juliens are still quite closed (e.g., Latour, Lafite, Lynch Bages, Leo Las Cases) while on the right bank they are mostly ready now (exceptions like Eglise Clinet exist though). The Margaux have now also entered the drinking window (except may be Chateau Margaux itself).
So to Brane Cantenac, to me this is a good example of a great value buy. Medium garnet, expressive nose of cedar wood, cloves, red fruit with a bretty/animalic undertone, very Bordeaux, very Margaux in its fragrance. On the palate medium body with soft tannins, quite delicate, may be a tad shy in the mid palate. Excellent with food, especially meat. There is a bit too much acidity on the finish preventing a higher note. Fully mature now. As the fruit retreats with further age the acidity will only accentuate, so drink up.
