Monday, October 6, 2008 - Wow a really nice showing by KB in 2006. My experience with KB goes back to 2003, when I could pick them up for $29.99 at my local wine shop and the guy said don’t worry I have 5 cases! The 2003 was a real treat, tight and primary at first but by the time I had the last bottle in Mar-07 it was ready for business. The ‘05 RRV that I had in May-08 was a too young and I could feel the heat, time to lay that one down for awhile.
Fast-forward to the ’06 Sonoma, this was ready from the get go. I chilled this down a bit to 55 degrees before even trying a sip. That worked and thanks to the folks who posted the CT tasting notes.
Color: A nice translucent strawberry color. I have been drinking a lot of Cab and Shiraz lately with those dark inky colors so this was visually appealing as I actually could see thru the glass.
Nose: This had that kind of nose you keep coming back to, raising the glass, sniffing and holding of on actually drinking the darn stuff. That is what I call a good nose.
Taste: I have been typing for 30+ seconds and I can still taste the cherry-cola, and fresh raspberries on my palate. Really nice long finish and I think the best experience with this wine.
Cellar-worthy: I was surprised at how well the Sonoma is drinking right now. I have a couple of more bottles and it will be really tough to hold them more than 1-2 years. I have to try my ’06 RRV bottling, which I expect will age a bit longer.
