Monday, January 29, 2024 - Has been a few years since I tasted Penfolds, I left Australia last time with this love/hate relationship. Well I am back after 5 years and little has changed, Penfolds makes very good wine but not Wow wine like the critics make out to believe.

Very glossy, polished with tons of black fruit on the nose of blackberries, cassis, dusty cacao, cedar and vanilla notes. The palate is quite restrained at this stage, and I opened this bottle 2 days prior! Dark black fruit, cacao, vanilla and savoury spices fill the palate along with dusty yet firm tannins, a polished and glossy mid-palate finishing long, velvety and slightly spicy. This will age very nicely, 15-20 years without breaking a sweat.
