Wednesday, April 2, 2014 - Horizontal blind tasting of 10 Bordeaux wines from the 2000 vintage tonight.
The Poyferré 2000 sports an impressive and rather fully packed young nose with hints of alcohol/heat, jammy sweet dark fruit, vanilla, tobacco, some green herbs and toasted oak.
Still, it’s not overdone, more like young and in need of time.
The nose settles somewhat in the glass with time and more swirling, but is still very young and undeveloped.
On the palate this is very supple and graceful, with perfectly ripe fruit, nice structure and balance, really long and caressing with nice fine tannins to balance the sweet velvety fruit.
A hint of vanilla present on the palate too, but I’m sure there is more than enough material in this wine to eat those last traces of wood within shortly.
A really great wine, from a really great vintage.
