Sunday, December 18, 2016 - This was a slow burner. We popped, decanted, and then consumed over six hours. It started out tasty but muted: pencil shavings on the nose and murky red fruit on the palette. Over time it opened up to much more expressive red fruit, like overripe strawberries with a metallic edge. My wife described it as twizzlers without the sweet and I agree.
Not quite the blockbuster that I expected but, when we finished it at six hours, it was very strong and possibly still improving. Next time we'll try a longer decant. Either way, this wine is still quite young and probably on an upswing.
