Sunday, December 20, 2020 - PnP last nite just for the hell of it. Generous aromas of black fruit, cedar, spice box, leather and pencil shavings. There's mostly black fruit here, though I found it to be somewhat less obvious and intense than in previous tastings. Indeed, I tasted mostly tertiary notes, conforming to what I detected on the nose. This wine has all the qualities one seeks in a top-notch Medoc, but I honestly don't get all the superlatives being lavished by other CTers. I bought a case of this wine long ago, and I've been following its evolution. I find this wine to be very good, not great. I also think it might have peaked, and possibly even beginning its decline. There is no disputing the dissipation of fruit here. Bad bottle? Perhaps...But I've never thought this to be among the elite growths from 2000.
