Sunday, April 21, 2013 - I must disclose that Pape Clement is among my favorite Bordeaux and for that matter, wines in general. It is a highly aromatic wine with the typical animalic (barnyard), smoky and forest floor Graves notes that jump from the glass. In my view if you want to show someone the difference between Napa Cabernet and Bordeaux these wines are a good choice because the aromatic profile is so distinctively Bordeaux and different to Napa. Now drinking well are the 2000 and 2001. The consumers can than chose which one they prefer. On the palate the 2000 is more structured and denser in the mid palate. It can be consumed now with 1h of aeration but will last for another decade while the 2001 is at its peak now.
