Saturday, April 11, 2020 - Medium orangey-garnet color. Fascinating nose. Very developed, with almost no fruit left. Extremely spicy and floral and earthy. There’s a slight vermouth character that worries me a bit, but hopefully it’s not completely oxidized and past it. It’s sort of a sweet and funky blend of fresh flowers and mushrooms and potpourri and underbrush. On the palate, still very tannic. But there is also still a bit of sour cherry fruit. The spiciness and floral notes are there too. But honestly this wine never really comes together. The tannins haven’t melted, and the developed flavors and the fruit haven’t integrated. Don’t see it improving with more time.
