2001 Château Gruaud Larose

Saturday, May 16, 2015 - Excellent aged St. Julien middleweight from Gruaud-Larose. This was a deep violet in color with bricking towards the edge. It was earthy and scented very conspicuously with dried blue and red fruits but they play second fiddle to the sandalwood and floral petunias as well as that forest floor. The wine actually brings forward vivid visual reminders of panting 6 packs of Petunias from the local hardware store of Mega retailer. It was a crowd pleaser for it sophistication and floral tones.
Paired with burger plates for my nephews birthday dinner.

5/17/2015 11:59:00 PM - Perfect. We think the good 2001 St. Juliens are drinking beautifully now. We had 2001 Talbot and Gruaud Larose recently...both perfect!!!

5/26/2015 9:40:00 PM - I have one more 2001 Branaire-Ducru left. I wish I had more 2001 St. Julien. I think St. Julien was the best for 2008 as well.

5/27/2015 12:43:00 AM - Should be nice! We have yet to try our 2008s. Just starting 2003. Last night Talbot was very good, but a far cry from the 2001.

5/28/2015 3:12:00 PM - Im holding the better 2003 and have gone at 2004s with decent success. I have just toyed with a few 2008 but they will be very good and similar in style to 2001. No reason to rush on them as many have just settled in for the big nap.
