Saturday, May 6, 2006 - A recent purchase from the Rare Wine Company in Sonoma, this bottle must have been impeccably stored, as usual for this most reputable of merchants. Deep yellow, tiny bubbles in its modest mousse. Fragrant in champagne terms, with notes of orange marmalade, lemon peel and walnuts. On the palate, very mature flavor profile with a hint of sherry which in this case only adds to the complexity and interest. Full and rich for Comtes, this surely can only go downhill from here. Really beautiful well made champagne in all its glory. Who needs pinot noir when chardonnay is this profound?
