Wednesday, August 18, 2010 - Changing and evolving from last taste. I am always humbled when less-than-favorite scents and flavors (for me) take center stage in a wine, yet I find myself reeling in anticipation of the finish and the subsequent sip. This is such a wine. Purple/red in the glass, there is an unmistakable nose and (big) taste of caramel, cream, and vanilla with a dark cherry fruit undertone expressing in this medium-bodied wine. Needs a good hour after bottle open for the flavors to coalesce and there is still plenty of tannins for this to continue to mature. Initially I was afraid that there was not enough fruit/flavor to carry through to the minimum of 1-2 yrs cellaring that this wine requires, but after the hour of air those fears were put to rest. Glad I have many more bottles of this to enjoy.
