flawed

Monday, August 31, 2015 - (Decanted for two hours.) Possessing a deep garnet color, the wine has rich enveloping aromas of ripe plum, boysenberry, deer musk and spice cabinet. While the nose is very intriguing and inviting, the dark fruit, mushroom and raisin flavors are too big, too ripe and simply too much. While they are not quite stewed, they are flabby and need structure. The medium finish reveals more than a bit of heat and the tannins seem enervated. This chunky and clumsy effort showed very badly. Given the reputation and reviews of the 2003 Vieilles Vignes, this must be a bad bottle.
