89 Points

Saturday, August 21, 2004 - Medium ruby, turning garnet color at the edges. This wine has been sitting in the wine store for some time evidently, so it is probably prematurely aged. The nose is actually extravagant, showing ripe creamy cassis and Cuban tobacco and notes of leather. In the mouth, less impressive, perhaps verging on slightly simple, but otherwise fairly well balanced. Tannins are pretty mild, this wine is medium bodied. Certainly not up to the standards of the better Pichon Lalande (nowhere close to the 1996, for example), but I still feel it has been under-rated by the critics. Definitely deserves more than an 87. 89-90 points.
