Wednesday, May 25, 2011 - Decanted. Plum red with bricking meniscus. Fully developed with moderate bouquet of warm cherry sucret, sous bois, black licorice, caramelized sweet potato, sandalwood and iron. Very soft on the palate with plush fruit, surprisingly soft, chalky and delicate tannin, moderate acid and a rather lean finish. Structurally the wine leaves me a bit underwhelmed. Developed flavors of warm red apple skin, tart black currant, wild strawberry and mocha before hints of cedar, iodine and tea. I don't have much idea of 86's in general, but this example bewilders me. I am missing all the dense structure and lost in the softness, the gentleness and the kindness, perhaps overwhelmed by fruit? Can this be? The acid level gives me hope that this wine will hold but developmentally, this wine is at, or just past it's peak...Drink.
