1985 Château Lafite Rothschild

Community Tasting Note

87 Points

Thursday, October 10, 1996 - With Debbie Kashiwabara and Margarita Poag celebrating Debbie's end of chemotherapy. Very nice ruby color. Lots of legs. Beautiful lead pencil/cedary bouquet. Plump fruit. Palate is just "OK." A little hard and metallic on the finish. Very dry, but not dried out. It's not tremendous, and a bit disappointing for an 11-year-old First Growth. 5-13-14-5: 87/100.

8/17/2022 9:16:00 PM - Thought about opening a bottle of this for an anniversary this weekend and saw this review. Thought it was mistake since it showed up as a recent tasting note. Is this really a review of your tasting note from 1996?

8/18/2022 9:17:00 PM - Yes it is. For some reason I have decided to transcribe my early experiences from pen to electronic media. Looking back, it amazes me how many great wines I got to taste as a relative novice, probably not having the experience to fully appreciate how lucky I was, or how to judge a young wine and how it might improve with age. Now many of the wines are 6x and more what I paid back in the day. Glad you caught the date, though. I bet this would be awesome if you opened it today.
