1993 Château Léoville Las Cases

Sunday, February 15, 2015 - Purchased off the wine list at the Post Hotel and decanted 45 minutes prior to our arrival. Dark garnet hue with surprisingly little bricking at the edges. Nose initially revealed cedar and tobacco notes but later gained additional complexity, showing scents of mountain floral notes, cassis, red currant, earth, and leather. At 90 minutes in, the palate exhibited elegant layers of buoyant, sweet red currant fruit, plum, cherry, and mulberry laced with massaging tannins and carried gently forward by low to moderate acidity. Long finish of leather, red fruit, grip, and earth. Never thought I would use "comfort food" as a way to describe a wine, but this just warmed out hearts.
