Thursday, July 23, 2015 - Had I known that a $25-30 Sancerre would age this well, I would have grabbed cases of this. Based on the color, you would never think that this was an eight year old wine. There is an oxidative quality to the largely citrus driven fruit that gives it a richness and slightly dried quality. Ripe to red grapefruit is the dominant flavor, but it is buffered my lemons, limes and slight stone fruit / apricot notes. There is very little, if any, green notes left, but the fruit is grounded by a crushed rock like minerality and slight baking spices. The medium plus to high acid leads to a long finish that see the fruit taper off into a mouth watering salinity. If you really wanted to nitpick this, the nose isn't particularly intense, but it is still complex and very much in line with the rest of the wine. Really a surprise and an exceptional bottle. At $30 (although I think it might be more expensive now), this represents a tremendous value. I will almost certainly find some newer vintages to sock away, as I really regret drinking these years ago.
