This wine is 40% Braucol (same as Fer Servadou), 40% Duras, and 20% Syrah, so you'd figure this relative oddball from Gaillac would offer some curious peppery/spicy notes. So why does it taste like a California Syrah? Medium- to full-bodied, very dark, ripe, plummy, intensely fruity in the blackberry spectrum, with a longish and clean finish. Pretty reasonable acidity keeps it fresh, but there's not much in the way of complexity or character. Extremely light tannins. It's perfectly agreeable and gulpable, but is nothing special and certainly confounding if you're looking for an idiosyncratic French country wine, which I was.
