86 Points

Saturday, June 14, 2008 - Color (5/5): Glass-coating deep purple with color through to the translucent edge. Nose (12/15): Once alcohol moves out (about two minutes) there's a full dark "plum-berry" cobbler aroma that's true to the varietal. Palate (14/20): The entry has immediate firm tannins with the typical black and blue berries following. Chewy, filling mouthfeel with the tannins firm and present but not overwhelming of the fruit and light oak. Finish is of moderate or even short length, but you really want to get that next mouthful in your mouth so it's not disappointing. Potential (5/10): Firm but forgiving tannic structure suggests a moderate-term potential development, but the last bit in the decanter began to show that typical Mid-Atlantic sag that some normally firm grapes can get (admittedly this was after several hours in a warm atmosphere). The wine is pretty well-balanced now and should reward at least through 2013. Drink this while you're aging your high-end Napa/Sonoma/Central Coast Petite Sirahs. Good solid effort.
