95 Points

Monday, August 15, 2011 - Another wow burgundy experience. 15 years young, this Chambolle for the relatively small and not-so-well-known Chatelots 1er Cru appears to be hitting its stride and its prime drinking window. Vigorous ruby color, the wine comes off cloudy (I suspect unfiltered), but that might be the only nit to pick here. Medium bodied with fantastic concentration of the fruit, but light on its feet. Firm but gentle acids, velvety texture. Expressive and developed nose of root veggies, smoked meat and berries. Over the 2.5 hours it took us to finish the bottle, the most amazing thing was how it continually changed its flavor profile. Started out with a sweet cherry preserve flavor, then with some air turned smoky and meaty, to further develop a red beet flavor, add some raspberries and cherry cola at the end. Intriguing, long and complex, this wine kept us engaged all night and made for a memorable night.
