Tuesday, January 24, 2006 - Clearly on its last legs, but not over the hill. Much of the bright thick fruit has left, but there are black cherries, and brambles, and balance remains. The nose is not off-putting, like I would expect at this age. A very good wine from a solid producer in the 1980's. This bottle was stored at the winery 15 years before its release to the Tasting Room in Chicago, where I acquired it. The 1987 and 1990 Reserves remain in the cellar, and will soon be drunk (within the next 6 months), lest anyone think me a necrophiliac with wines, but I am not dreading the opening of those bottles given the strong showing of the 1984.
