90 Points

Saturday, January 10, 2009 - Huge nose of sweet fruit and creamy oak on this. On the palate, distinctly brambly and spicy. I mean, really spicy, like fresh black pepper and cayenne and so forth. But really nicely offset by the creamy oak and the intense fruit. We had it with bbq and one of our friends observed that he couldn't tell when the spiciness of the sauce stopped and the wine started, calling it a "seamless" pairing. And it was. Only flaw is a touch of heat, but --at 14.5% abv-- this is practically restrained for the genre. Seems likely that this would improve with another year or two in bottle, too. 90+.
