This opened in the glass over some hours to fistfuls of exotic spice and inscense smoke with bright and sound acidity and viscous body. A strong undercurrent of walnut oil that I’ve noticed in Fonseca vintages as recent as 1985 is only subtly graced by the orange peel and dusting of cocoa powder which only begin to belie its age to the palate. But I don’t think this could ever be mistaken for a younger colhieta of any pedigree even with your eyes closed.
